Jakob Stegelmann has worked extensively since the 1970s with popular culture such as animation, computer games, comics, fantasy and science fiction. In 1980, Jakob started a weekly tv-show with classic cartoons on Danish Broadcasting Corporation, and in 1989 the very popular Troldspejlet (The Magic Mirror) followed, one of the first tv-shows to review videogames.
In addition to his work in tv, Jakob has written several books about popular culture, including biographies on Carl Barks and Walt Disney and books about popular culture in general.
Jakob was also one of the producers of the legendary Danish animated feature “Valhalla” (1986) and has throughout the years contributed to newspapers such as Berlingske Tidende, BT and most recently Jyllands-Posten, where he reviews comics and graphic novels. With Troldspejlet and his related contributions, Jakob has created a universe and community that began as a subculture, but which is today widespread and a significant part of our cultural consumption.
For his work, Jakob has reveived several awards, including Nordic Game Award, Honorary Award at the Odense Film Festival, Honorary Comics Reward (Ping-Prisen) and many others.
